Carnival in Brazil is an annual celebration held on before Ash Wednesday, which is the beginning of Lent. Lent is the period of fasting and reflection when Christians traditionally gave up meat and other treats in the lead-up to Easter. Therefore, Carnival is seen as the final chance to overindulge in food and drink before this begins.

This is Calgary's very own Carnaval!
